CASE STUDY / GEAL LUCCA SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

Biogas

Wastewater and landfill treatment plants that require the exploitation of low-methane biogas achieve the highest level of efficiency thanks to our expertise.

COGENERATION WITH BIOGAS FROM ANAEROBIC DIGESTION

Biogas cogeneration plant from anaerobic digester

In 2010 for G.E.A.L S.p.A. (Gestione Esercizio Acquedotti Lucchesi) we installed the first cogeneration plant in Tuscany with oil-free gas turbine technology.

The project includes the supply of two turbines fuelled by biogas from wastewater treatment, including a biogas compression and dehumidification treatment kit.

The two Capstone CR65 turbines provide the Pontetetto water purification plant with one million kWh per year to meet the plant’s electricity needs and, thanks to an external heat exchanger, 1.8 million kWh of thermal energy to allow the digesters to operate at maximum efficiency.

The turbines operate even with low concentrations of methane in the biogas.
