COMBINED PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICITY AND STEAM
Cogeneration to meet growing energy demands and production increases
Food factories require reliable and economical energy to support energy needs. In its production process of high quality sausages, Furlotti & Co. uses steam for its cooking ovens and electricity to power its machinery. The company was looking for a solution to meet the growing energy demands resulting from plant expansions and subsequent increases in production. At the plant in the province of Parma, we installed a Capstone C600 Signature microturbine. The combined production of electricity and steam acts as the main source of energy supply for the plant and is supplemented by auxiliary boilers to produce the necessary steam during peaks in steam demand that exceed the co-generator’s production capacity. This plant is the first one installed for a consortium of Parma Ham producers.
